Good morning everyone!
It's great to be back from break! I pray you had a restful break. At my house, I had the chance to video chat over Easter dinner, start a knitting project, play around with the Acapella app, and snuggle my kitties. I'd love to hear about some of the things you did! We only have a few weeks left in the school year. You can expect each week to look as follows: Monday Assignments posted here by 8am; finished products can be emailed directly to me as they are completed. Tuesday Zoom Meetings These meetings are completely optional, but a great way to stay connected and to receive help on individual work if you like. For 3rd and 4th grade, we will spend the majority of the time on Recorder Karate belt testing. 3rd 10-10:30 4th 10:30-11 5/6 Band 11-11:30 7/8 Band 11:30-12 5/6 Choir 12-12:30 7/8 Choir 12:30-1 Thursday Brief check-in and updates as needed. For this week, I would like to hear from everyone a list of four songs that have kept you in a good mood the last few weeks. These songs must be school appropriate. (If you don't feel comfortable having Fr. Joseph listen to it, it may not not be a good song to share.) Feel free to ask your friends and family about what they've been listening to as well. This Thursday, I will post a playlist on my YouTube channel. I will continue to update it as song suggestions come in. We may not be able to make music together, but we can still listen together! Miss Fletcher's Four Songs: - October by Eric Whitacre - Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles - No One is Alone from Into the Woods - Somewhere Over the Rainbow as performed by Israel Kamakawwiwo'ole Good morning families!
Thank you to those of you who joined us on Zoom on Tuesday. I appreciate your flexibility, grace, and patience as we move into new platforms for learning. This is a final call for assignments, including submissions for General Music Bingo. During our break, I do not expect any work from you. My availability will be limited at that time. May you have a blessed Easter and a restful break! Good morning! Below is the plan for the first half of the week.

CHOIR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggp_jJ6tLtg I hope you all are doing well. I terribly miss seeing you in class and being able to work together. Check out below for what you need for today and tomorrow! General MusicIt sounds like you had a ton of fun on the instrument scavenger hunt. I am very impressed by some of the materials you found. Now we can use some of those common items to make our own instruments! You may not have everything needed for every project posted here, and that's okay! This is an optional project. As an added challenge, you can see what other instruments you can make with what you have on hand--egg shakers, pan flutes, tambourines, rain sticks, hand drums, bagpipes.... You're only limited by your imagination! Straw Oboe This may be the simplest project. You just need two things to get going! However, it may take the most time to master. The link above will take you to a video I created. Speaking of masters, you can watch this amazing performance given on...yep, a straw! Mini Banjo Another simple project that you can easily customize. Mine is handheld. Do you have anything at home to make a larger version? A smaller one? How do the sounds compare? The link above will take you to a video I created. Best Percussion Instrument EVER Okay, maybe not ever. But this little doodad has the best of all non-pitched percussion instruments. Tiny Tim also decided to help direct this one. The link above will take you to a video I created and a sneak peak of Tiny Tim. (No, he is not fully grown yet. He isn't even a year old!) These activities fulfill one of your Bingo squares. If you wish to receive a reward, your Bingo sheets are due to me next Friday, April 10, by 7pm. RECORDERS We are beginning a Recorder Zoom where students can test for their Recorder Karate Belts, receive advice from classmates, and get individual feedback and practice with me. This is completely optional, but highly recommended. I hope to see you next Tuesday, April 7th, at the following times:
BANDKeep working on your musician biographies. If you need help finding people who played/play your instrument, let me know! We are beginning a band Zoom. This is completely optional, but highly recommended. We can work together on class music, our small ensemble pieces, or solos. I will see bands next Tuesday, April 7th, at the following times:
CHOIR
Happy Tuesday!

Good morning families! Below are this week's assignments for music. PK-4thIn preparation to create our own musical instruments at home later week, we are introducing found sounds. Found sounds are when musicians use sounds and materials that are not traditional musical instruments in order to create music. 1. Watch the below video. This group, STOMP, does not use any traditional instruments to make music 2. Fill out the Found Sounds worksheet. You may want to use some of the instruments you find in the scavenger hunt to create your own instrument this week and to create your own song next week. 3. Scan or email your worksheet to me by 7:00 Thursday morning. BANDAside from practicing technique, the most important thing a musician can do is listen to performances by other professional musicians. Each student must select three famous musicians who play their band instrument and fill out a short biographical page on each. Additionally, students must find and listen to a recording of the musician in question. The completed worksheet must be emailed or scanned to me by next Monday, April 6. If you feel stuck or aren't sure where to start, please email me. I can give you a starting list of musicians for your instrument or find recordings for you. CHOIRComplete the following Scavenger Hunt document using your choral music that you took home. The worksheet must be emailed or scanned to me by next Monday, April 6. If you have difficulty finding one of the following attributes or do not have your music, please let me know. Blessed feast day to you! Today, nine months before the birth of Christ, we celebrate the Annunciation. We commemorate this day the moment that the angel Gabriel came to the Virgin Mary. He carried an important message: God chose the Virgin to bear his Son. One of the songs from our Christmas concert, Song of Mary, is a new setting of an old Basque hymn. This hymn, also known as Gabriel's Message or The Angel Gabriel, may be used to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord (Dec. 25) as well as the Feast of the Annunciation (Mar. 25.) Your family may want to sing one of the following hymns together.
Good morning families!

Below are a number of resources you can use to celebrate the feast day of St. Joseph the Betrothed, the spouse of the Most Blessed Virgin. St. Joseph can be invoked for many causes, but he is primarily known as the patron and protector of families, particularly that of the church family. A Prayer for St. Joseph's Intercession Grant, we pray, almighty God, that by Saint Joseph's intercession your Church may constantly watch over the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation, whose beginnings you entrusted to his faithful care. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Further Resources to Celebrate today's Feast |
