Good morning!
I hope you enjoyed your three-day weekend. It was so good to see you on Zoom Tuesday! In 3rd and 4th grade, we showed off our hard work and dedication to learning recorder. I'm so proud of you all! Band and choir students learned about phrasing, which is identifying musical sentences, and used the skills from last week to create musical phrases. End of School Year Next week will be our final week of music online for the year. Instead of an assignment on Monday, I will post resources and activities for students to access during the summer. We will use Tuesday's Zooms to say farewell and, for 3rd and 4th grade, final belt tests for the year. All students will receive a 3 on this trimester's report card. I appreciate your participation, hard work, and resilience. This has certainly been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I'm especially grateful to have made it through the year with you, our wonderful students and families! Happy Tuesday everyone!

Once you have the notes and rhythms down, you can start adding dynamics. Remember, the easiest way to determine is to focus on the important words in the lyrics and focus on the highest or lowest notes in the melody. The rest is up to you! Good morning! Here are this week's activities. PK-4th grade This is one of my favorite games: Composer or Pasta? In this game, you are presented with a name. Then you must guess whether it is a name of a composer or the name of a pasta. The answer is revealed on the next slide. For every correct answer, you earn a point. How did you do? This is also a fun game to play with your family.

Good morning everyone! I hope you've enjoyed the puzzles so far this week. I'm so proud of our families and students. It warms my heart to know you're doing well and staying safe, even if we can't make music physically together. One of the YouTube channels I follow, The Shows Must Go On, occasionally posts free recordings of professional musicals. For 48 hours, the 1998 West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats will be available on YouTube. This stunning musical, based on a collection of poems by T. S. Eliot, ran for 21 years and almost 9,000 performances, garnering numerous awards and nominations in the first year of its original run in London. Cats is an amazing combination of intricate costumes, breath-taking dance, and memorable music. I highly suggest watching if you can. Happy Monday everyone! Firstly, thank you to everyone who could swing by the Food Drive. It was wonderful to see so many of you yesterday. Since third grade's Zoom class was cancelled, I am happy to review belt tests recordings sent by email through Monday. Next week, I will post the tutorial for Good morning everyone! I hope you had a wonderful May Crowning yesterday. Here are resources and assignments for the following week. PK-2nd This is a compilation of four revamped Sunday school songs. I'd love to know which is your favorite or if you have another favorite song to share. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=recdOYUmSRQ 3rd/4th Recorders Due to many kitty interruptions, I did not complete as many videos as I hoped. However, I do have a video how-to on playing Gently Sleep and a review of the note Low E as played in the green belt song "It's Raining." Fourth graders, if you feel up to the EXTREME challenge, I also have a video teaching you how to play the Star Wars theme song. This will be for a limited-edition glow in the dark belt. Band and ChoirFinally, band and choir students will begin a concert planning project due by June 5th. Students must work individually or in small groups to select seven songs for their band or choir for a mock performance. This week, we will begin selecting pieces using sheet music vendor websites. Students must have one song for each of the following categories Old: a "classic" work or something by a composer who has died New: a "modern" work or something by a composer within the past ten years Borrowed: a song from another country or in another language Blue: a song that is slow or sad Fun/Light: a song that is silly, fun, short, or easy to learn Solo/Small Group: a piece to highlight a few members; can be an all-women's song, all-men's song, a song only for certain instruments, etc. Finale: a large, upbeat song to end the concert; may be performed with other bands and choirs We will discuss resources and parameters for this assignment in Tuesday's Zoom. For students who cannot attend, I will record your class's Zoom meeting and send it to you via email for review.

It was so great to see so many students on Zoom Tuesday! Recorders are sounding better than ever. 3rd grade even learned a new note! I will upload a tutorial Monday for students to learn and review the note Low E. Band and Choir each began a look at resources for their final project. I appreciate the feedback I've received through the survey I emailed all 5th-8th grade students. I will continue to leave it up through Monday to give everyone time to respond. In this third week of Eastertide and the last week of April, it is fitting that we look toward May Crowning. This week, let's prepare this week by learning the ancient chant Regina Caeli.
